Effie Karpodini-Dimitriadi studied History and Archaeology at the University of Athens and obtained her PhD from the University of Ioannina. She specialized in Cultural Management and Adult education issues, as well as in the planning and coordination of European Projects and Initiatives. She has been appointed (1998-2007) General Director and Board member of EVREMATHIA AE, Educational Services (affiliated company of ALPHA BANK) and Director of the Institute of Cultural Studies of Europe and the Mediterranean (1994-1997).
During her professional life she has taught in Greek Universities and higher education institutes (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences-Department of Mass media and Communication, 1992-1994; Institute of regional development, 1990-1994; University of Athens-Department of Human sciences and Education master programme1995-1996; Technological Educational Institute of Athens, 1989-1990; Greek National School of Guides 1987-1989). She has also been invited to lecture at European Universities (CITY University of London-Department of Arts Policy & Management 1993, Central European University, Paul Valery –Montpellier, 1994-1996, University of Arts in Belgrade, Master Programme – Cultural Policy and Management 2001-2002). From 1998 to 2000 she organized a series of seminars on Cultural management and administration in collaboration with the CITY University of London-Department of Arts Policy & Management, while until 2007 she was supervisor of a large number of vocational training programmes on Management, Information technology, Tourism, Culture and Train the Trainers issues.
For several years she has been involved as a tutor and Member of the Orientation Board in the European Diploma on Cultural Project Management of the Marcel Hicter Foundation (1993-2008).
From 1976 until 1984 she worked as Managing Editor of archaeological publications in Ekdotike Athenon SA while she wrote and edited texts for the state Radio broadcasts (EIR) on traditional culture. She also authored texts for the TV broadcast ‘The Other Greece’ (1981-1982, Production Η & G. Th. Sgouraki) and for the multimedia show ‘The Philhellenes & the 1821’ organized by the National Bank of Greece on behalf of Doukas School of Athens (1987).
She has participated in several European meetings, workshops and seminars for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage and she was member of the panel of examiners of the Cultural Policy of the Russian Federation (1994-1996). She also attended European meetings, workshops and seminars on Lifelong learning, cultural identity and intercultural dialogue and she has published studies, articles and researches, while being an editor of several archaeological and cultural publications. Since 1980 she has been occupied with the writing and publishing of books on the historical and cultural tradition of Greece (Greece, The Greek Islands, Castles and fortresses of Crete). For her books (The Peloponnese and Castles of the Peloponnese) she has been awarded the Prize of the Greek Tourism Organization and the Association of Tourism Writers and Journalists – FIJET (1982 and 1991 accordingly). She is an active member of scientific organizations and European Networks while she has been for several years President of the European Network PACT-EURETHNO (1994-2001) of the Council of Europe and founding and active member (1992-2004) of the European Network ENCATC supported by UNESCO and the Council of Europe.
Since 1998 she is involved in equal opportunities and human resources issues, as well as in the skills and competences certification processes. She is a certified trainer of Adult Continuing Education programmes, accredited by The National Accreditation Centre for Continuing Vocational Training (EKEPIS) and an elected member of the Board of the Greek Association of University Women for the period 2010-2013.
